Ashikaga Gakko
This fantastic place is known as Japan's oldest university and is presently a national historic site. Located in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, the Ashikaga Gakko has a majestic appearance that reveals the history of Japan. The school is thought to have been established by Ono no Takamura in the Heian period (ca. 832). The school was largely based upon Confucianism and was the educational institute to many famous and powerful people. It's famous buildings contain some of Japan's oldest historical documents and the library within is the home for over 12,000 volumes.
