This Ryu is derived from the Hontai Yoshin Takagi Ryu Jujutsu. It's history can be seen at the link on the previous page. The current form of Hontai Yoshin Ryu was compiled by Minaki Saburo Hidetoshi. Minaki sensei was born in Meiji 39. At the age of 16 he began study under Kakuno Happeita Masayoshi studying Hontai Yoshin Takagi Ryu Jujutsu and Kukishin Ryu bojutsu. At the age of 28 (1933) he received Menkyo Kaiden (complete mastery) of the arts from Kakuno sensei. Minaki sensei opened a dojo near Tokyo in 1937 and taught these systems. In later years Minaki sensei moved to Kobe opening a chiropractic clinic and dojo. Minaki sensei later retreated to Fumon Waterfall on Mt. Mana for austere training (shugyo). Inspired by his training he restructured the teachings of Takagi Ryu into what he originally called Fumon Yoshin Ryu but later changed to Hontai Yoshin Ryu.
Minaki sensei passed away at the age of 87. The soke title was passed on to Inoue Tsuyoshi Munetoshi for Hontai Yoshin Ryu. Inoue soke still teaches in Hyogo ken. The main dojo is run by the current Menkyo Kaidensha which includes Inoue Kyoichi, Mitsuyasu Yoshihiro, Sato Kimimaro (also kaiden in Mugai Ryu).
Inoue soke was born in 1925 and met Minaki sensei in 1955. In 1972 he received Menkyo Kaiden from his teacher in Hontai Yoshin Ryu. Inoue soke later received the soke title along with scrolls and an antique sword in 1982 from Minaki sensei. The ryu is still taught in Japan and around the world.
